KNOXVILLE, Tenn. | Although no athletes from Scott High qualified for the state tournament at the Class AA East Sectional event at the University of Tennessee here Saturday, it was nevertheless a good showing for several Highlanders.
Sophomore Aidan Roberts had a career-best time of 45.79 in the 300-meter hurdles, shaving more than three seconds off his previous career best while finishing 13th overall in the event.
And fellow sophomore Riley Lantz not only had a career-best time, but set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.86 seconds as she recorded a Top 10 finish. The previous record was 17.9 seconds, first set by Amy Sexton in 1997, and tied by Abbey Overton and Shelby Yancey.
Lantz also competed individually in the 300-meter hurdles.
Scott High had three relay teams competing in Saturday's sectional event: The girls 4×100 team consisting of Lantz, Abby Henson, Hayley Flores and Bella Sharpe; the boys 4×200 team consisting of Luke Bowling, Cameron Parker, Bo Laxton and Haiden Blevins; and the boys 4×100 team consisting of Bowling, Sharpe, Hugo Henry and Skye Babb.
Andy Blevins also qualified for the sectionals, but was unable to compete due to a broken collarbone requiring surgery that he suffered in the Highlanders' soccer semifinal game against Clinton five days earlier.
