Softball: Lady Indians win district tournament play-in game

BEAR CREEK  |  Oneida scored early and often, and played its way into the District 4-A tournament with an 18-3 win over Sunbright here Wednesday evening.

In an effort to beat the incoming inclement weather, the two schools agreed to bump up the district tournament play-in game to Wednesday, and Oneida's scheduled regular season games for Thursday and Friday (a double-header against Jellico and a game against Somerset) were canceled.

Oneida spotted Sunbright an early 1-0 lead, then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, tacked on six more in the second to go up 13-1, and cruised to a 16-3 win after 4.5 innings. Sunbright scored one run each in the third and fourth innings, but it wasn't enough to extend the game.

Lay and Long each stole two bases.
