JAMESTOWN, Tenn. | York Institute has built an impressive 21-2 resume in Class 2A basketball. And on Monday (Jan. 30), the Dragons showed why, defending their home court well with a 73-45 win over Oneida.
Reese Beaty scored 22 points to lead three York players in double figures, as the Dragons defeated Oneida for the second time this season.
Monday’s game was a battle of two teams that could very well wind up in the state tournament in Murfreesboro. But it was all York in the beginning. The Dragons jumped out to a 20-3 lead in the first quarter, and led 35-10 at halftime. The second half was played close to even.
Kelsey Pike scored 17 points to lead Oneida, but she was the only Lady Indian in double figures.
York shot a scorching 55% from the field, and was a perfect six of six from the free throw line.
Oneida shot 44% from the field, and was six of 12 from the line.
York dominated the glass, with a 26 to 14 rebounding advantage, and recorded 15 steals while turning the ball over only seven times. On a typical night, the Lady Indians face their opponents into more than 20 turnovers.
