Covid costs Scott High a second game

HUNTSVILLE — Scott High will be off for a second consecutive week, but this time it is the Highlanders who are being forced to cancel.

After losing a game against Austin-East last week due to covid, the Highlanders have canceled this week’s game against Knox Carter, the school announced Monday.

As a result of Scott High’s cancelation, Knox Carter will pick up a covid win, while the game will go down as a no-contest for the Highlanders.

The Hornets improve to 4-1 on the season with the win. The Highlanders’ record is 1-2 after last week’s covid win over A-E.

While the Highlanders were credited with a win for the game against the Roadrunners, it is essentially meaningless, since the two teams aren’t in the same region. This week’s cancelation is much more critical, as Scott High and Carter are both members of Region 2-4A. With the game going into the win column for the Hornets, the Highlanders’ window of opportunity for a playoff berth is extremely small.

Scott High’s covid cancelation only affects the football team. The school’s soccer team played at Cumberland Gap on Monday, and is scheduled to host Clinton on Tuesday.

The Highlander football team is next scheduled to travel to Pigeon Forge on Sept. 24.
