HUNTSVILLE | Scott High won for the third time in four outings Thursday, and completed a season sweep of Sunbright, with a 12-5 win over the Tigers at John John Yancey Memorial Park.
The Highlanders and Tigers both finished with eight hits, and both committed four errors, but Scott High did a much better job taking advantage of the opportunities, taking the lead in the third inning and never looking back.
The Highlanders trailed 3-1 before the big third, putting four runs on the board to take a 5-3 lead, which became a 9-4 lead after the fifth and a 12-4 lead after the sixth.
Bases on balls were a big difference in the game. Scott High walked 10 batters, while Sunbright managed just four walks. The Highlanders' staff recorded 14 strikeouts, compared to just six by Sunbright's.
It was Hunter Bates who got the win, striking out eight in five innings while giving up two earned runs.
But Jonathan Terry, who got the start, also did well, striking out six in the first two innings while giving up three hits and one earned run.
Caleb Prewitt had a big game at the plate, driving in four runs and scoring another while collecting two of his team's eight hits.
Also with multiple RBIs were Micah Boles and Bates, each with two.
The Highlanders teamed up for more than a dozen stolen bases. Jarome Byrd led the way with five steals, displaying his quickness while going two of two at the plate and twice earning bases on balls.
Josh Byrge had the Highlanders' only extra-bases hit, with a double.
